Updated October 2026

King Khalid International Airport

King Khalid International Airport (RUH) lies north of the city. In October 2026 flights could be disrupted at short notice: check your flight with your airline before you go.

The metro and buses

The driverless Riyadh Metro has six lines, Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Purple, with 85 stations over 176 km, all open since January 2025. Zaha Hadid Architects’ KAFD station links the Blue, Yellow and Purple lines. Riyadh Public Transport’s buses and rapid-transit routes feed the stations.

Ride-hailing and drivers

Careem and Uber work across the city and to the airport. For Diriyah at night and for the desert, ask your hotel for a car with driver, or book a licensed operator.

Trains across the Kingdom

Saudi Arabia Railways runs passenger trains on the East Line between Riyadh and Dammam, through Hofuf for Al-Ahsa, and on the North Line between Riyadh and Qurayyat, in economy and business class with private sleeper cabins on some services. Buy tickets on sar.com.sa.
