About The Edge of the World, on the Tuwaiq escarpment

North-west of Riyadh, the Tuwaiq escarpment, a range some 800 km long, ends in sheer cliffs above the plain: the place known as the Edge of the World, Jebel Fihrayn. The last stretch of the drive is off-road, so most visitors go with a licensed operator in a four-by-four; a trail leads down from the end of the track towards the valley floor. The St. Regis Riyadh puts it about 100 km from the city, and Visit Saudi suggests sunrise or sunset for the light.

Getting there

About 100 km north-west of Riyadh; the final stretch is off-road. Book with a licensed operator (Visit Saudi lists experiences), or through your hotel.

On the edge

The cliffs fall sheer to the plain; there are no barriers and no services. Bring water and food.

Go with a licensed operator, and leave the cliff edge before dark.

When to go

November to March, at sunset or sunrise. Avoid the summer heat.

Our advice: stay well back from the edge, and check the weather: rain can close the tracks.
